The President of the Republic, His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh, received today, in the middle of the afternoon, in the presidential palace, his counterpart from Niger, Mr Mahamadou Issoufou, on a éclair visit to djibouti.

During this visit, the two heads of state had an interview in mind and an extended working meeting to their respective delegations.

The discussions focused on achieving greater economic integration in Africa, including the project to establish a free continental trade area (Zlec).

The free trade area is a programme to establish a gradual process of abolishing customs duties between African countries.

The President of Niger is the leader of the free trade area (Zlec) process in the African Union.

His visit to djibouti was also part of a tour to negotiate the early convening of an extraordinary summit of the African Union on this issue.

In this connection, the head of state reiterated to his Nigerian counterpart the determination of Djibouti to contribute to the successful conclusion of the free continental trade area (Zlec).

The economic integration of Africa to which the free continental trade area subscribes is far from being a foreign concern for the republic of Djibouti.

Our country is already a leader in the process of economic integration in the region.

This profile must be based on important investments, particularly in the development of development infrastructure.

It also needs this profile at the turn of an integrated series of major economic projects with the countries of the region, including Ethiopia.

” LA is the natural continuation of our commitment to comesa said president guelleh in a statement in honour of the visit of his Nigerian counterpart.
